The Divine Science of Yoga
October 26, 2008 Workshop in Duncan BC
Dean Smith is a respected physiotherapist, and international lecturer/teacher from Vancouver. Dean began studying yoga with Gioia Irwin over 20 years ago and did his teacher training with Gioia in the early 90’s. Dean has been teaching workshops in anatomy, biomechanics, muscle balance and muscle function for over 15 years. In this workshop he is pleased to meld his knowledge and experience in the field physiotherapy and yoga to bring you a unique educational experience.
This seminar will:
- Review the important functional anatomy in the spine and shoulder regions as it relates to yoga
- Learn about common muscle imbalances, optimal alignment, postural changes and normal movement patterns
- Learn to look at ourselves and our clients with new and better educated “eye”
- Look at the risks inherent to various posture types in our yoga practices
- Examine ways to correct various movement and postural faults that can lead to limitation and/or risk of injury in yoga
- Learn new ways to fill in the “gaps” for ourselves and our clients, to allow us to excel and optimize our practice time
This is a hands on workshop where we will work on ourselves and with others to develop the observational skills to work effectively and safely in our own practice and with others.
This exciting yoga and anatomy workshop is coming to Vancouver Island on October 26, 2008 from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. The cost is $100.00 per person with cheques payable to Sandy Crichton at Valley Yoga.

About This Site
My intention is to gradually add content that may be of interest to both experienced yoga practictioners and those beginning an exploration of yoga.
Here's what I envision for the site: information about different styles of yoga; book reviews; information on how to choose a good yoga mat and other props; articles from yoga instructors and anything else useful we can think of that invovles how yoga promotes physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being and fitness.
I've started out with a review of Ray Long’s Scientific Keys Vol I: The Key Muscles of Hatha Yoga and Vol II: The Key Poses of Hatha Yoga, published by Bandha Yoga, and a web site review of www.BandhaYoga.com on the Books, Yoga Studios and Links page.
I have also written an article on Vijnana Yoga on the Yoga Articles and Comments page.
Be patient, the site will develop slowly and please let me know what you would like to see here! You may contact me via email at sharon@yogahealthfitness.com Please use a descriptive subject line so I can sort you out from the storm of junk mail.
Namaste
